Bit Flipper
It starts with one bit.
Click to flip it. 0 becomes 1. Flip again: 1 + 1 = 10, the bit overflows, and the carry falls into memory. Spend that memory to widen the register, and keep going until a single bit has grown into a 64-bit computer.
Bit Flipper is an incremental game about how computers really work. Everything you build is real computer science: place values, carries, hexadecimal, logic gates, ALUs, CPU cores, GPUs and, eventually, a quantum chip.
Features
- Grow the register from 1 bit to 64, through the real x86 registers AL, AX, EAX and RAX. Each one you complete is a permanent upgrade.
- Build the machine: 10 chips, from the transistor to the quantum chip, plus a tree of computer-themed buffs.
- Watch the screen upgrade with you: green phosphor terminal, amber monitor, CGA, SVGA and finally true colour. The chiptune soundtrack gains layers too.
- Cosmic rays really do flip bits in memory. Catch them for bonuses, and keep every bit of the strange signal they carry.
- Reboot to flash permanent firmware, and come back faster.
- A story told through the SYSTEM LOG, and a message from space to decode.
- Idle-friendly: chips keep working for up to 8 hours while the game is closed.
- 39 achievements and 13 firmware upgrades.

Had a short go. The first overflow is a great teaching moment: the log line "1 + 1 = 10. A bit fell off the end. I caught it." made the carry click for me straight away, and the green terminal look suits it. One question: the widen cost jumped from 10 to 40 after my first extra bit, which felt steep that early. Is the second bit meant to be a wall, or does it get easier once the first chip unlocks?
Hi there. Thanks for giving it a try. The idea is that widening becomes more expensive as you progress through the game. When you unlock the first chip, which flips bits for you, it will also unlock some buffs you can purchase to speed up your progress. You should be able to reach a good point in the game (without spoiling what happens) in about 30 minutes or less, depending on the chips and buffs you choose to buy. For version 0.5.0 I want to have a better late game and add some new mecahnics that improve the progress if you pass some computer science tests. I hope you enjoy.
